METAL ON METAL: DARK HORSE COMICS’ “SLAYER: REPENTLESS” ISSUE #1 TO HIT JANUARY 2017

5b15e60a-d561-4f61-bbaa-71703675ecc2

LOS ANGELES, CA., (November 21, 2016)-Legendary heavy metal band Slayer has teamed up with Metalocalypse writer Jon Schnepp andTwilight Zone artist Guiu Vilanova for a three-issue Dark Horse Comics series,Slayer: Repentless, with covers by Eisner Award-winning British comics artist Glenn Fabry. The first issue, with a variant cover by Eric Powell (The Goon,Hillbilly), is scheduled for release on January 25, 2017.

Slayer: Repentless #1 (of 3) is available for preorder on the Dark Horse website.

“It’s been my honor to chronicle the bloody road trip that is the Slayer comic series from Dark Horse/Nuclear Blast,” said writer Jon Schnepp. “Using the band’s music and lyrics from their three decades of albums, while crossing over and through the Repentless music videos by BJ McDonnell, I have woven a tale of betrayal, hate, perspective, loyalty, family, and murder that will need to be experienced through the comic books’ pages.”

With its story of a raging road trip down a bloodstained highway, a tale of the doomed and the damned, the Slayer: Repentless series is an expansion of Slayer’s Repentless videos, written and directed by BJ McDonnell (Hatchet III).

The band made an appearance at San Diego Comic-Con 2016, with a subsequent sold-out performance at the House of Blues, in support of the Dark Horse Comics series.

ABOUT SLAYER:
For more than three decades, Slayer’s onslaught has proven the band to be the supreme thrash-metal band on the planet, the band that other heavy acts are measured against and aspire to. Their membership in “The Big Four” – Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth and Anthrax – the four bands that defined the thrash/metal genre – secures their place in music history. The two-time Grammy-winners have also accumulated an abundance of certified Gold Albums along with “Best…” awards from media outlets all over the world, including Kerrang!, SPIN, Metal Hammer, Revolver, and Esquire. Throughout Slayer’s history, the band has never faltered in unleashing its extreme and focused sonic assault, and, unlike many of its contemporaries who “commercialized” their sound, Slayer has remained crushing and brutal, steadfastly refusing to cater to the mainstream. Slayer’s founding member, guitarist Jeff Hanneman passed in 2013, and Exodus guitarist Gary Holt has been filling in for him since. Paul Bostaph, who was Slayer’s drummer from ’94 – ’01, has rejoined bassist/vocalist Tom Araya and guitarist Kerry King, and is back behind the kit.

In September 2015, Slayer released Repentless, the band’s 12th studio album, the first without Hanneman and first with producer Terry Date, to widespread rave reviews and the highest chart debut of the band’s career. The band also teamed up with director BJ McDonnell for three high-concept and savage music videos for the album’s “Repentless”, then for “You Against You,” and the most recent, “Pride in Prejudice.”

In addition to publishing comics from top talent, such as Eric Powell, Mike Mignola, Geof Darrow, Brian Wood, Gail Simone, Stan Sakai, and Guillermo del Toro, and comics legends, such as Will Eisner, Milo Manara, Kazuo Koike, Neil Gaiman, and Frank Miller, Dark Horse has developed its own successful properties, such as The Mask, Ghost, X, and Barb Wire. Its successful line of comics, manga, and products based on popular properties includes Dragon Age, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Aliens, Conan, Tomb Raider, Halo, The Witcher, Serenity, Game of Thrones, and Avatar: The Last Airbender. Today Dark Horse Comics is the largest independent comic book publisher in the US and is recognized as one of the world’s leading entertainment publishers.

LOS ANGELES, CA – Tuesday, September 6, 2016 — A convicted prisoner on death row…a cookie-cutter, white-bread family unit putting up the Christmas decorations… two worlds, lightness and darkness colliding…white supremacists…ruthless murders…SLAYER”s “Pride in Prejudice” music video.

Produced by Felissa Rose
Edited by Ed Marx and Andrea Porter
Director of Photography – Eric Leach
Jason Trost (“Hatchet III“) – Wyatt
Danny Trejo (“Machete,” “From Dusk Til Dawn“)
Bill Moseley – the Dad (“House of 1000 Corpses,” “The Devil’s Rejects“)
Caroline Williams – the Mom  (“Sharknado 4The 4th Awakens”, “Hatchett III“)
Richard Speight, Jr. – returning as the ultimate Bad Guy  (“CSI,” “Jericho,” “Supernatural”)
Filmed during the winter of 2016 in the mountains of Wrightwood, CA

“I’m particularly excited about this third video,” said McDonnell, “because we played with stylistic differences with the trilogy. Where one video plays like an action film, this third one is more of a dramatic piece. The final story takes us into a world that is especially sinister in tone, with the dark and the light colliding. The conclusion is visually cinematic and harsh, with SLAYER conducting us through it all with ‘Pride In Prejudice.'”

“It was a pleasure working with BJ on this project,” said SLAYER”s Kerry King. “SLAYER is notorious for letting the artist be the artist, the producer be the producer, and the director be the director, etc. By doing this we get a completely unique perspective that never really strays far from our own. Get ready for video three.  It’s my favorite!!”

SLAYER AND THE “REPENTLESS” VIDEO TRILOGY

With the premiere of “Pride in Prejudice,” SLAYER completes the Repentless music video trilogy.

The first video, “Repentless,” was released 9/11/15 and has accumulated nearly 9.8 million views to date.  It introduced us to Wyatt, the eyepatched rebel inmate (Jason Trost/”Hatchet III“), and a host of nefarious prisoners played by some of today’s most iconic horror film actors including Danny Trejo/”Machete,” “From Dusk Till Dawn“, Tony Moran/”Halloween’sMichael Myers, “American Poltergeist“, Derek Mears/”Predators,” “Friday the 13th“, Tyler Mane/”Halloween“/ Sean Whalen/”Men In Black,” “Halloween II”), and Vernon Wells/”Mad Max 2,” “Commando,” “Weird Science“).  “Repentless” was shot at the Sybil Brand Institute in East Los Angeles and has Slayer performing the song in the prison yard while a riot breaks out, blood flowing in abundance, inmates and prison guards brutally slaughtered.

From the very first frame, “You Against You,” the gore, the violence, the carnage begins and just never ends. While the second video in the trilogy, it is the prequel to “Repentless,” telling the story of the circumstances that led toWyatt‘s erroneous arrest and imprisonment. SLAYER‘s performance for “You Against You” was shot at a graveyard of jets, airliners and helicopters in California’s Mojave Desert. “You Against You” premiered 3/16/16 and has accumulated more than 4.6 million YouTube views.

The “Repentless” video trilogy was conceived and directed by BJ McDonnell who directed the 2013 horror film “Hatchett III.”  His rich resume as a motion picture cameraman includes “Jack Reacher,” “Tomorrowland” and “The Interview,” and just wrapped filming for the upcoming “Annabelle 2.”

In September 2015, SLAYER released Repentless, the band’s 12th studio album, the first without founding member Jeff Hanneman and first with producer Terry Date, to widespread rave reviews and the highest chart debut of the band’s career.  The band – Tom Araya/vocals & bass, Kerry King/guitars, Paul Bostaph/drums andEXODUS/SLAYER touring guitarist Gary Holt – has toured near-non-stop since the album’s release, and heads out on the road starting September 9 with a seven-week North American trek. This fall, Dark Horse Comics will publish a three-issue comic book series based on McDonnell‘s original concept for the “Repentless” video trilogy and written by Jon Schnepp. In addition, October will see the release of SLAYER‘s “Cradle To Grave” BMX Bikes/Subrosa four-bike collection.  Comprised of the SLAYER Balance, SLAYER 20, SLAYER 26 and theSLAYER Urban Terrain Bike, all are intended for BMX riders to “use and abuse.”

Weekend, single-day and VIP tickets for Houston Open Air are on sale now at www.HoustonOpenAir.com.

Here’s a preliminary list of Houston Open Air onsite experiences, including Gourmet Man Food and craft beer, as well as nonprofit organizations with a presence at the festival:

Gourmet Man Food: Gourmet Man Food (“GMF”) has been part of American culture since pioneers started experimenting with their cowboy menus to “kick things up a notch.” Since then, it’s become a phenomenon of artistically created, statement-making food, served in large portions with a powerful presentation. It is a unique twist to foods you know mixed with flavors you don’t expect. Gourmet Man Food is not small portions on sparse plates, it’s not pretentious, not for the faint of heart, not for a day you are counting calories, and, it’s not just for men.

Houston Open Air will feature food from several Houston favorites, with additional vendors from around the country. Along with its general admission and VIP Gourmet Man Food selections, Houston Open Air will also feature a local Tex-Mex showcase at Tacolandia presented by the Houston Press and Tabasco. Visit http://houstonopenair.com/gourmet-man-food/ and http://houstonopenair.com/tacolandia/ for the list of food vendors and menu items.

Bud Light: America, they say we’re a nation divided. They say we disagree on everything, but they’re wrong. We agree on a lot: liberty, justice, ROCK MUSIC, and beer. Nothing brings America together like Bud Light and nothing brings rock fans together like Houston Open Air. That’s why we’ve formed the Bud Light Party – a party for everyone. We are the fake political party America needs right now and we’re stopping by Houston Open Air to supply ice cold beer all weekend long. Because no matter where we stand on the issues, we all sit on the bar stools with our hands raised in the air listening to our favorite rock bands. America has seen the light, and there’s a Bud in front of it.

The Jack Daniel’s Experience is open to all fans, 21 years old and up, for tours free of charge. Stop by the Jack Daniel’s Experience for interactive engagements throughout the weekend.

Comments vocalist Mark Osegueda, “I can honestly say this is the most excited, anxious, and yet focused DEATH ANGEL has ever been about any tour in the band’s entire history. Slayer, Anthrax, and Death Angel! What an amazing bill for metal fans! We also have the extreme pleasure of doing shows supporting Anthrax on this run as well. But what will bring us the most excitement is the bond we have with all the hardcore DEATH ANGEL fans out there and we look forward to solidifying that bond with all the headlining shows we have on this run. We have new songs! We are focused, well-rehearsed, and anxious to deliver a lethal performance every night we step on that stage. Thank you once again for giving us the opportunity to do so.”

# Anthrax, DEATH ANGEL only
DEATH ANGEL will be touring in support of their newest full-length The Evil Divide, released earlier this
Spring via Nuclear Blast Records. The Evil Divide was once again recorded at AudioHammer studios in Sanford, Florida with producer Jason Suecof (Trivium, Deicide), who previously worked on 2010’sRelentless Retribution and 2013’s The Dream Calls For Blood. Mastering duties were handled by Ted Jensen at Sterling Sound in New York City.
Three decades into their celebrated career, DEATH ANGEL remains as hungry as ever. As a result, uncompromising urgency and unpredictability drive The Evil Divide. The group — vocalist Mark Osegueda, lead guitarist Rob Cavestany, guitarist Ted Aguilar, drummer Will Carroll, and bassistDamien Sisson — satiate the appetite for buzzsaw speed riffs, double bass mayhem, and scorching vocals over the course of ten new anthems. The Evil Divide stands out as the culmination of thirty-plus years of music for DEATH ANGEL. It kicked off with legendary debut, The Ultra-Violence, in 1987. The classic Frolic Through The Parkbegan to cement their legacy and even earned the distinction of landing on Loudwire’s list of the “Top Ten Thrash Albums NOT Released By The Big 4.” The group broke up following 1990’s Act III only to reunite in 2004 on Art Of Dying for the next generation.

In 2008, DEATH ANGEL teamed with producer Nick Raskulinecz (Foo Fighters, Alice In Chains, Rush, Mastodon) for Killing Season recorded at Dave Grohl’s Studio 606. In 2010, Relentless Retribution boasted a cameo from virtuosos Rodrigo y Gabriela, while 2013’s The Dream Calls For Blood bowed at #72 on the Billboard Top 200, selling 5,400 copies first-week and earning the group’s first-ever entry onto that respective chart.

For more than three decades, Slayer’s onslaught has proven the band to be the supreme thrash-metal band on the planet, the band that other heavy acts are measured against and aspire to.

The band also teamed up with director BJ McDonnell for two high-concept and brutal music videos for the album’s “Repentless” (9.5-million views) and then for “You Against You.” (4.2-million views).

With the video for “You Against You”, SLAYER deliver the prequel to their 2015 release Repentless, which was shot in a prison near L.A. The main character is once again played by Jason Trost (Hatchet III), who narrates the story of his tragic imprisonment, even though he was never guilty of the crime.

For “You Against You”, SLAYER travelled into the mojave desert to shoot the clip on an aircraft cemetery and find the a haunted location for their story around the prisoner named Wyatt. Again, the clip was directed by BJ McDonnell.

SLAYER – “Repentless” behind the scenes video released via RED Digital Cinema!
 slayer
SLAYER recently unleashed the band’s 12th album, Repentless, on September 11th via Nuclear Blast Records. To celebrate its release, the band created a gore-soaked music video for its title track—and RED Digital Cinema was there to capture the entire shooting experience.

Watch RED‘s behind the scenes clip of SLAYER‘s “Repentlesshere.

RED commented on the music video, “Featuring a star-studded cast of classic and contemporary horror icons, the music video was designed with cinema-quality production value and special effects in mind. The video’s director, BJ McDonnell, used SCARLET DRAGONs to help capture his vision of a visually stunning music video with a story to tell.”

“Repentless,” the first music video for the album, has now amassed more views in less than two weeks than any of the band’s previous music videos during the same time frame – more than four-million views at social media.  The video was directed by BJ McDonnell (“Hatchet III”), filmed at the Sybil Brand women’s prison in East Los Angeles, and features copious amounts of blood, grizzly murders, and cameo appearances by some of Hollywood’s most recognized anti-heroes, including Danny Trejo (“From Dusk Till Dawn”) and Tony Moran (“Halloween”).

On this previously unreleased video clip, SLAYER’s Tom Araya and Kerry King talk discuss the “Repentless” track:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AvpM0M3LeCY

The album scored a Top 10 debut in 25 countries, Top 5 in 14 countries, and made career-highest debuts in the United States, the UK, Germany, The Netherlands and New Zealand.

imageMarch 18, 2015

SECOND ANNUAL
MOTÖRHEAD’S MOTÖRBOAT
SET FOR SEPTEMBER 28-OCTOBER 2

NORWEGIAN SKY WILL BECOME
‘THE LOUDEST BOAT IN THE WORLD’
WITH PERFORMANCES FROM
SLAYER,
MOTÖRHEAD,
ANTHRAX, SUICIDAL TENDENCIES, HATEBREED, EXODUS, CROBOT,
PHIL CAMPBELL’S ALL STARR BAND AND MORE

DURING CRUISE FROM MIAMI WITH STOPS IN NASSAU AND
GREAT STIRRUP CAY IN THE BAHAMAS

“…a metalhead’s dream. Think Hard Rock Hell-with-hot-tubs.
On the high seas. With a hard on.”
–Classic Rock, October 2, 2014

Motörhead’s Motörboat will embark on its second voyage September 28 through October 2, 2015 on Norwegian Sky, departing Port Miami, with stops in Nassau and the private picturesque island of Great Stirrup Cay in The Bahamas. The Loudest Boat In The World will feature performances from some of the greatest heavy rock bands in the world, including Slayer, Motörhead, Anthrax, Suicidal Tendencies, Hatebreed, Exodus, Crobot, Phil Campbell’s All Starr Band, Motor Sister, Kyng, Fireball Ministry, Huntress, and more.

Motörhead’s Motörboat offers guests a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to share an experience with their favorite bands and to see unforgettable performances on various stages throughout the ship and on the island of Great Stirrup Cay.

Staterooms go on sale Wednesday, March 25 at 2:00 PM ET at www.MotorheadCruise.com.

Motörhead founder Lemmy Kilmister says, “And so the Motörboat sets sail one more time – better get your tickets now, or be left sobbing on the dock! Oh – and we promise not to run out of beer this time!”

Slayer’s Kerry King says, “Slayer is crashing the Motörboat party!! I, personally, will be keeping the bar in business. Hell will be coming with us. Light it up!!!”

Motörhead–the world’s biggest and baddest rock & roll band of all time–are celebrating their 40th anniversary and recently returned to the studio to begin work on their 22nd studio album. The band’s song “Heartbreaker”–from their mammoth Aftershock album, which debuted at #22 on the Billboard 200–was nominated in the “Best Metal Performance” category at this year’s Grammy Awards. In 2005, Motörhead won the Grammy in the same category for the song “Whiplash.” Through tenacity, hard work, and a deep-seated ability to produce an original, face-melting sound, Motörhead–Lemmy Kilmister (bass, vocals), Phil Campbell (guitar) and Mikkey Dee (drums)–has become one of the most popular bands in the world with a fanbase that is second to none. www.imotorhead.com

The Chicago Tribune’s Greg Kot wrote that the five-time-nominated, two-time Grammy winning Slayer is “one of the great American rock bands of the last 30 years, forget about genre.” Indeed, few bands come close to matching the intensity that Slayer brings to its live shows, having been named “Best Live Band” by numerous media outlets including Revolver, SPIN, and Metal Hammer. With songs that mirror the turmoil and aberrations of our society, Slayer remains crushing and brutal, steadfastly refusing to cater to the mainstream. Slayer recently formed its own label imprint that will be distributed worldwide through Nuclear Blast, and plans to release a new album in 2015. Slayer–Kerry King (guitar), Tom Araya (bass/vocals), Paul Bostaph (drums) and Gary Holt (touring guitarist)–will tour extensively to support the new music. www.slayer.net

2015 marks the first excursion on Norwegian Sky for Motörhead’s Motörboat. The contemporary ship offers 13 complimentary and specialty dining options, 12 bars and lounges, a coffee bar, an outdoor pool, and five hot tubs. While onboard, guests can try their luck in the Sky Club Casino, relax in the onboard spa and get their heart pumping in the fitness center or full basketball court.

For the debut Motörhead’s Motörboat cruise in 2014, an international, multigenerational audience from over 30 countries came together to celebrate the legacy of the cruise’s iconic namesake and escape into five days of true rock ’n’ roll living with no holds barred. Highlighted by a pair of ear-splitting performances from Motörhead themselves, Motörhead’s Motörboat 2014 featured more than 30 performances by 15 of rock and metal’s top artists, including heavy metal all-star band Metal Allegiance, Anthrax, Testament, Down, and Zakk Wylde.

Writing about last year’s experience, RollingStone.com proclaimed, “Anthrax, Lemmy Kilmister, hundreds of metalheads and a naked, inflatable doll make the Motörboat cruise completely unforgettable…Motörboat brought heavy metal to the high seas and featured a previously unseen combination of gambling, belly-flopping, shirtlessness, guitar soloing and even yoga [September 29, 2014].”
