Puppy Rescue Mission – Allowing Afghanistan War Heroes to Match Companions with Homes

image001

Saiga, a dog rescued by The Puppy Rescue Mission, and her soldier friend

The ROCKSTAR ENERGY DRINK MAYHEM FESTIVAL is deep-seated in U.S. military and veteran communities – avidly promoting programs like Metal of Honor, in conjunction with The Pathway Home (PTSD rehabilitation facility) and Hope For The Warriors (Military family assistance, veteran transition assistance, employment preparedness). In addition to these programs, the festival actively supports another great cause in conjunction with our troops: The Puppy Rescue Mission!

The Puppy Rescue Mission (“TPRM”) is the brainchild of president and founding member Anna Cannan. Anna’s idea for TPRM began when her fiancé, Chris, was deployed to and stationed in Afghanistan. TPRM’s primary mission is to help bring home the companions to our soldiers serving in a war zone. These companions already have homes waiting for them — they just need help getting there. TPRM believes that these beloved companions have at times not only physically saved our soldiers from harm but have also filled an emotional need for a sense of home and normalcy in a hostile and dangerous environment.

With the help of the ROCKSTAR ENERGY DRINK MAYHEM FESTIVALTPRM continues to make loving connections between rescue dogs and their companions! Recently, Los-Angeles based photographer and ROCKSTAR ENERGY DRINK MAYHEM FESTIVAL documenter Strati Hovartos directed a heartfelt PSA, starring a cast of active duty and veteran warriors and narrated by Mayhem-alumni and world-renowned rocker Rob Zombie.

Last summer, Rob Zombie donated his incredible truck featured on History’s Counting Cars to TPRM. At the time, Rob Zombie stated, “… soldiers in Afghanistan would find these dogs and bond with them and sneak them on the bases, even though they weren’t supposed to have them.  It was probably the only moment of sanity for these guys, when they spent time with them….But they weren’t allowed to take them home, and if they could, it was so expensive. That was a cause I could really understand and get behind.”

Saiga, the dog featured in the PSA, is an actual rescue animal from the Afghanistan war zone adopted by festival producer John Reese and his family throughTPRM. As a puppy of a dog befriended by a soldier serving in the Middle East, Saiga was brought to the US from Kabul, Afghanistan at four-and-a-half months old.

ROCKSTAR ENERGY DRINK MAYHEM FESTIVAL producer John Reese states, “The sacrifices made by our men and women serving overseas are numerous. Having to leave a dog behind that one may become attached to is just another sacrifice that most of us aren’t aware of. The work The Puppy Rescue Mission does is so important.”

“A sincere thank you goes out to the ROCKSTAR ENERGY DRINK MAYHEM FESTIVAL for their support and dedication in making these reunions possible,” states The Puppy Rescue Mission Founder and President, Anna Maria Cannan. “The bond between a soldier and his dog is truly unbreakable. Thousands of miles away from home, it is sometimes the one thing in the world that can bring a smile to their face.”

MOLTEN METAL: Mayhem in San Bernardino, CA

My favorite time of the year, the annual MayhemFest, kicked off its 6th tour in San Bernardino on June 29th, 2013. What better way to spend a scorching hot summer day than with thousands of sweaty metalheads in the dirt and completely unleash the beast within!  This year’s lineup was extra HEAVY! I caught full sets of BattleCross, Son of Osirus, Machine Head, and Children of Bodom on both the Jagermeister stage and the Musician Institute stage. I also caught a few songs from Job For a Cowboy‘s set, which I enjoyed tremendously. My green VIP wrist band gave me access backstage, where I ran into a few of my favorite metal dudes. Right before Machine Head was to hit the stage, I saw Phil Demmel and we started talking.  All of a sudden, Jason Hook of Five Finger Death Punch rides up on a green dirt bike. I stopped him and asked him to join us in a photo-op and he was down!  Totally surreal and way cool of him! Everyone was in a good mood despite the heat!  Machine Head really killed it with a powerful performance and killer stage set up. I was rocking out on stage with them, looking out at the sea of metalheads crowd surfing to the almighty Rob Flynn.  The crowd surfing was out of control!  I have never seen so many girls crowd surf at a metal show.  Everyone was going nuts, but at the same time making sure no one was getting hurt.  Backstage, I ran into Mike Faley of Metal Blade Records. He was keeping cool in a seat in the shade.  I told him how sick BatterCross’s performance was and he agreed!  In a previous interview I had with Brian Slagel of Metal Blade Records, he mentioned how much he liked BattleCross and to keep a look out for them this summer. He was right, I was blown away. I bought a CD and a T-shirt form the lead singer, Kyle “Gumby” Gunther and had the band sign it! I am digging the new BattleCross album “War of Will.”   It’s intense!  Another band I’ve never seen live that I am now totally into is Born of Osiris! Pretty powerful how they mix in beats and keyboard! Children of Bodom played last on the Music Institute Stage. Alexi Laiho can do no wrong. He is the ultimate shredder! Continue reading

Behemoth Forced to Cancel Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival Appearance

Behemoth Forced to Cancel Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival Appearance

Drummer Inferno undergoes surgery and unable to perform while he recovers

Poland’s blackened death metal outfit BEHEMOTH have been forced to cancel their upcoming appearance on the Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival due to their drummer Inferno taking ill and requiring surgery.

The band’s front-man Nergal comments; “This must have been the most difficult decision we were forced to make in recent years. Behemoth is known for not canceling any shows or tours. But this is not something we can do when we are missing our driving force, the man behind the drums – Inferno. Unfortunately, he was hospitalized due to appendix surgery and it’s gonna take him few months to fully recover and get back to shape. We are trying to save selected European Festivals with a fill in drummer (Krimh, ex-Decapitated), but we won’t be risking doing a full-on prestigious tour like the Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival without Inferno. Behemoth is a solid unit and any part of this unit missing makes us weaker, and that is not how we want to present our new material to our fans. Please, accept our apologies and be patient, we shall return to Europe (this fall) and US (early 2014) empowered and motivated as never before!”

The Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival is set to kick off on Saturday, June 29 in San Bernardino, CA and features bands such as Rob Zombie, Five Finger Death Punch, Mastodon, label mates Amon Amarth, Machine Head, label mates Job For a Cowboy and Battlecross, Children of Bodom, and many more. For tickets, dates, contests, and more, head to the Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival Official Site and follow the tour on Facebook and Twitter.

BEHEMOTH’s recently announced forthcoming full-length album, The Satanist, is scheduled for a fall 2013 release. For further updates please visit the band’s Facebook page and MetalBlade.com.
