JUDAS PRIEST UNLEASH TITLE TRACK FROM ‘FIREPOWER’

767b2371-2fee-4fbc-9883-e31cb84e18f7

The buzz surrounding legendary metal band Judas Priest’s forthcoming album, ‘Firepower,’ is undeniably growing louder – on the strength of the video clip for the track “Lightning Strike,” as well as many of the attractive/limited edition purchasing options made available for fans via PledgeMusic already being sold out. And it will soon reach a fever pitch with the unveiling of another new killer track, plus another limited edition of the forthcoming album being made available for purchase.

Fans can now hear the title track from ‘Firepower’ via this link, and can purchase a metallic silver-colored cassette version of the album on PledgeMusic, and is being issued in an extremely limited pressing of only 300. And if judging from how quickly some of the previous limited edition bundles sold out via the site (such as signed guitars from Glenn Tipton and Richie Faulkner, various colors of autographed vinyl, etc.), this rare cassette version will be an instant rarity and collector’s item. If you haven’t checked out the “Lightning Strike” video or preordered the album, you can do so now by visiting the follow link.

Set for release on Friday, March 9th, 2018 via Epic Records – the album is comprised of fourteen tracks of pure and highly inspired metal.  And to mark the occasion Priest (singer Rob Halford, guitarists Glenn Tipton and Richie Faulkner, bassist Ian Hill, and drummer Scott Travis) has reunited with producer Tom Allom (the man behind the board for all of the band’s releases from 1979-1988, including such stellar classics as ‘Unleashed in the East,’ ‘British Steel,’ ‘Screaming for Vengeance’ and ‘Defenders of the Faith’) and with Grammy Award-winning producer Andy Sneap also helping to raise the sonic bar even higher.

“Tom Allom has got this classic metal thing,” explains Halford. “And Andy is a bit more of a ‘modern metal producer’ but his thinking is a little bit different to Tom’s. And I think to get this balance between that classic old school metal to what Andy’s world is was just a remarkable coalescence.” “Tom Allom has been with us since 1979, so his knowledge of ourselves and our music in general is immense,” adds Hill. And according to Travis Priest returned back to a recording method that worked incredibly well on the band’s earlier classics – “We went back to the organic way of recording where it’s all of us in a room and we got to play together.”

With the impending arrival of ‘Firepower’ and its ensuing tour (which kicks off on March 13th), THE PRIEST IS BACK!

MI Conversation Series Presents: Rob Halford

Most Friday nights you can find the bars in Hollywood filled with rockers and metal heads, but this was no ordinary Friday night.  Tonight, school was in session with the ultimate metal god Rob Halford of Judas Priest in a candid conversation led by AP writer Ryan J Downey.  Hollywood’s Music Institute has been hosting sit down one on one talks with famous musicians hoping to inspire a new generation and support their dreams of rock n roll fantasies.

Tonight Rob Halford shared stories of what it was like recording music with his band Judas Priest and how he is surprised he is still alive. He touched on a couple subjects that stood out to and inspired me. He said back when he started music, the record companies had money, but now there is no money in music and everyone is scrambling trying to figure it all out. But he did say to the crowd of hungry metal heads, don’t give up your dreams and always keep trying. We hear this over and over again, but for some reason coming from the metal god it seemed to stick more and made me think about my dedication to the metal community and what kind of mark I want to make. Rob Halford also touched on the subject of the PBS documentary about the two young boys that shot and killed themselves after they heard a Judas Priest record. You could see on Rob’s face that this was an emotional topic, because it would have changed his life and the fate of music forever if the court case was decided the other way. A lot of metal bands would have been in trouble and music would be regulated and censored.

At the end of the night, Musicians Institute let the audience have an opportunity to ask Rob some questions of their own.  I thought it was endearing to hear the young students start their questions with, “HI Rob my name is so and so”, and Rob would greet them and call them by their first name. They must have felt like they were on cloud nine to have metal god Rob Halford address them by their first name. A lot of the attendees let Rob know how influential he was in their life. One guy said he has an autistic son, but when he puts on Judas Priest his kid starts rocking out and is aware of his surroundings. That is incredible, we hear stores like this all the time that music is universal and brings life into people.  The fact that it is metal music that helped this man’s son makes that more special and Rob Halford liked it too.   The interview was two hours of intense focus on Rob, the time went by so fast that some metal heads didn’t get a chance to ask their questions. When the night ended, you left with a lot more knowledge about the metal god beyond just his epic high pitched notes and loud appearance on stage. Rob mentioned that perhaps the new Judas Priest album will be the best one yet.   The bar is set very high with all their classics, so we shall see.  Rob seemed to be very proud and excited to get the new album out to his fans. He said to follow him on IG because it is really him and he posts. His IG is @robhalfordlegacy.  I started following and so should you.

Tales from the Pit: Judas Priest! Fall to your knees and repent if you please!

I have seen Judas Priest multiple times throughout my life, and each time has been more memorable then the last. A couple years ago, when Rob Halford sang with Metallica during the “Golden God Awards”, his health was not the best – he hit the stage with a cane, but he still roared like the Metal God he truly is. This past week, November 10th, was no different…Priest played the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles and showed Los Angeles heavy metal is not only alive and well, but is kicking serious ass! It was my first time seeing their new guitarist, Richie Faulkner play… ever! He fit right into the group. Richie knows how to work a crowd with his winning smile and good looks. He is also a shredder on the guitar; he reminds me a lot of Zakk Wylde in the way he plays solos. Redeemer of Souls is the first record released in six years since releasing the 2008 concept album Nostradamus.  After the departure of founding guitarist K.K. Downing in 2011, this is the first new music Priest has released since Richie joined the band following K.K.’s departure.

On my way to see Priest I was blasting Black Sabbath. Who would have thought the music before they went on stage would be Black Sabbath? I thought that little coincidence was very cool! I missed the opening band Steel Panther. I have seen them a bunch of time as well on the Sunset Strip. They are talented musicians and funny too, but I arrived too late to witness their set. It was about 10 minutes before show time, when I got there and the venue was packed-full of Metalheads of all ages. Priest opened up with a monstrous thundering roar via “Dragonaut” which is also the first track on their new album. There was a back-and-forth of guitar solos between Richie Faulkner and Glenn Tipton that kept the crowd entertained and fist pumping for more. The song that stood out most to me from the new album was “Halls of Valhalla.” When Rob Halford shrieks during this song, it’s a sound we all know and love that stays true to Priest roots! Rob’s voice is better than ever! He looked healthy and his iconic metal wardrobe costume changes were amazing!

The band sounded fantastic and they looked like they were having fun! Glad they played hits like “Turbo Lover,” “Hell Bent for Leather,” “Breaking the Law,” and “Living After Midnight.”  I was also delighted that they played “Beyond the Realms of Death” as it is one of my all-time favorite Priest songs! Overall it was a fantastic show. As great as the new album Redeemer of Souls is, the new material sounds even better live, so I highly recommend you catching a show!
